Why can not view hidden files ?

It is because of a virus named USBWORM ( orkut ,youtube blocking virus ) do the following step to get the result.

1. Go to your Start menu, click on Run and open up your Registry Editor by typing "regedit" without the quotes and pressing OK.
2. Once there go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced\Folde r\Hidden\SHOWALL
3. Delete the value CheckedValue. (Its type should be REG_SZ and data should be 2.)
4. Create a new DWORD value called CheckedValue (same as above, except that the type is REG_DWORD) by right clicking on the right pane->New->DWORD Value. Modify the value data to 1 (0x00000001).

see the attached image for more details .. :)

Ok I am having the same problem. So I opened up that folder in the registry editor and the value CheckedValue was already a REG_DWORD type and its value was already 2. What should I do?

worked well, thnx.
but there was a little difference, the "checkedvalue" wasn't a REG_SZ, it was a REG_DWORD & value set to "zero", i just changed the value to "1".

Hi Guys,
At times, we get frustrated when we cannot view the Hidden Files and Folders. Editing Registry should be the last option and it should be mentioned properly.
We guys, I had researched on this and incase you want to view your Hidden Files and Folder, please go to Kelly's Korner for Windows XP (Search in google and will get the link).. Check for Enable\Disable Hidden Files and Folder; right click on it and select the option Copy Shortcut and paste the link in the browser, you will get a VBscript, ust Run it and it will clsoe all the browsers, and then access the folders, you will be able to see all your Hidden files and Folder...Cheers!!

WORKS GREAT, BUT THE VALUE IS RESET WHENEVER I START THE COMPUTER THE NEXT TIME. I THOUGHT IT MUST BE THE USB WORM, BUT I CAN'T FIND ANY ENTRY OF svchost.exe UNDER MY USER NAME. ALSO, MY ORKUT ACCOUNT AND YOUTUBE WORK FINE
